Going High follows the story of Tasha, a seventeen-year-old girl, and her friends. It begins with Sherice, a teen mother, telling the group of girls that having a child is what makes a real woman. Each girl in the group has a different idea of what makes a girl a woman, but the consensus is that the act of having sex is what makes someone a woman. Tasha is the only one in the group who seems skeptical about Sherice’s message. When she expresses this, Sherice becomes angry and the rest of friends abandon her. Afterward, Tasha meets a woman named Auntie who gives her advice. She encourages her to be unafraid to go against the crowd.
Throughout the rest of the day, Tasha’s friends blow her off every time she tries to speak with them. Tasha learns that her friends are not speaking with her because Sherice threatened to end her friendships with them if they do. In the end, Tasha decides to “go high” and be the bigger person.
